Dear VHF-friends,
after a lot of requests in the magazines FUNKTELEGRAMM, CQ-DL, FA, as well in several foreign publications and via packet-radio (DXCs and BBS) and via vhf-internet-reflector, please do welcome the result of our:
144 MHz (M)ost (W)anted (S)quare Europe Survey 2004
of our "VHF-DX-Group DL-West" in cooperation with "FUNKTELEGRAMM". The datas was collected in the time periode between december 2003 and 07 march 2004. For the first time we tried to request the data in the way of a new standard (mwd-files) which created together with Bo, OZ2M, who also developed a pc-program for us to evaluate this survey (for details please have a look at Bo´s homepage).
Our MWS-survey have been taken since 1993 and this year we have seen the highest figure of participants since our start. We did receive 120 votes (6 votes more than the old record in year 1999)
So please have a look to the result of the survey 2004 in detail. This year we gave the vote into total figure and in percent of all initials (120 initials) to compare it against 2003 and 2002:

Some comments about the above listing:
The first figure (eg.: initials 45) behind the square, will give you an idea how many people would like an activity on 144 MHz for this special square in 2004. The second figure (eg.: votes % 45%) will show the percent vallue to
the tolal of 120 initials. At the first 25 places you also will be able to compare against percent vallues of the years 2003 and 2002.
Also this year we have a lot of squares from eastern and south-east part of europe at the top of our list! Of course there was a big increase of activity in past year due to the fact that K1JT spread his nice program WSJT, but our list will not show too these increase or much differences to the past years. The only way to get an high score of an square into lower value-areas, seems to run an expeditions with activity over several days (eg. the expeditions in past years  in KM28, KN49 or KO57...)

you are able to find the results of the survey 2004 as well as the results of the past years, so you are able to compare the changes from year to year. Here you are also able to find the survey of Alex, IW0GPN, who made a list for 50 MHz and from Bo, OZ2M, who worked it out for 70 MHz and all bands onwards 432 MHz. These we will try to
start also next year again togther with the list of the Most Wanted DXCCs. If you are interesting in detailed information on any square or any area you would like to activate (vote number and/or calls who do need it!) please do send me a mail via internet ( mws@dl8ebw.de ).
Again many thanks to all participants in the list 2004 and specially
to DL8HCZ, DK3XT, DK5YA, OH5IY, EA6VQ and OZ2M who spread around the news or built up the new tools for these survey! Hope to meet you soon again in the air on 144 MHz...
