June 20. 2003 - MUF was extreme high today| Please send your comments/reports/log-sheets/audios to DK5YA

Wow, what a huge cloud again. At 0700 UT MUF was rising very fast and rapidly over northern France and Belgium. First 144 signals detected in I4 at 0945 from G-land and suddenly a big opening started. Some G made DL on QRB 670 KM, sure ES cause signals were far far beyond S9. That time MUF was almost at 260 MHz!!! Thats something isn't it? Many reports say that signal strenght was incredible, endscale reports on and on. Opening lasted until 11:17 UT when last sigs from GM were heard in  IT9. Again 144300.0 was the center of activity but much more discipline today with the boys from UK but usual chaos in DL...

Nothing heard at all here. No wonder, Es-clouds were just above me ! Weather was quiet. 70% blue skies by the time of the opening. Low wind, temperature around 25C. No thunderstorm at all.
Report from a good old friend of mine:
F5SN, JN27RB
1002: heard a batch of LA's and maybe SM's and OZ's. Impossible to get any call-sign. Opening lasted for only 2 minutes, just as if it was a long MS burst. Nothing else heard later.

All QSOs were into Italy except one on CW with HB9QQ. ODX was 1503 Km with IZ4AIK. I only heard HB9QQ and a few G stations on CW - that was a shame.... I work all bands 160m-70cm but the only other opening that I ever had to Italy on 144 MHz was much shorter (3 QSO's in 7 minutes) and that was around 1110z on 18-06-97. I run 150w to a 9 el long Yagi and I was glad to just be around yesterday when the condx came up on 2m!

Fantastic 20 minute opening this morning  One of the most intense openings I have taken part in. I think that I was a little too close to the cloud here and the GW & EI stations probably got the best of it and for longer. Signals were incredibly strong and the MUF must have been very high for a time >200MHz? for the shortest distance QSO's. Despite very high activity in G, the QRM was less than usual because stations did spread out from the calling channel for once!!

Hi All. Well, Today's E's Opening is Classed as the best I have ever experienced. I have never had a pile up like that before whilst being a Non-Dxpedition Station. And, The G's that were working the E's Local to me deserve a Real Pat On The Back for Today's Opening. No QRM. Evenly Spread Out. Not Much Calling On 144300. Just a real excellent Day on my behalf. I am well pleased with myself and for others that worked plenty of E's. Also, unlucky to those that were stuck at Work, Etc. Absolutely Excellent. Heard Many Others, but some QSB At end and beginning of the opening.

Great opening!! I've never had an Es QSO BELOW 1000km before!
Usual unthinking operators sitting on 144.300, calling CQ, making a
lot of noise, and slowing their QSO rate enormously. Will they ever learn??
Just because you don't hear any DX, it doesn't mean that another station 50km
away doesn't!
SPREAD OUT GUYS - YOU'VE NOTHING TO LOOSE BUT QRM!!!!

As usual I observed the cluster during QRL and hurried home for the noon break as soon as I saw an OE working EI via ES. When I arrived at home it was still quiet while other HB9s in JN47 already worked some stations via ES. But finally the cloud moved and so I was able to work a few stations, too!

The signals were very, very strong. EI8JK brought in full scale (i.e. 9+60  reading on the FT847). Unfortunalety there were not many stations available from the UK. But it was excellent to notice that 300 was virtually free all f the time,
and that activity spreaded from 250 to 350. All in all, a very nice opening with very disciplined operators !

The signals from OK was going to Atlantic ocean for long time agn ! The short Esopening to G from JN69 was only for 1 minutes - G4RRA. Then again nothing.
The 2nd Es opening to EI came after 45 minutes. I also hrd GW4DGU 59+ and GW3AW? but they didn't copy me. The 2nd opening was short too.
